The Conversation Booth Interactive Installation
The Conversation Booth is a mobile recording facility that automatically captures the voices of participants and archives their responses to a given subject or question. A reaction against the selective nature and strict format of an interview process, the booth provides an intimate, enclosed and sound-proofed space for all willing voices to be heard.

These captured conversations then form the fabric of an audio installation piece heard through an adjoining speaker. I am interested to see whether there is any consensus of opinion when selections are determined by a computer algorithm that chooses contributions at random.

The Conversation Booth seeks to widen public participation in community and heritage focused projects, by allowing more voices to be included, with the outcome both undetermined and free of bias.

In March 2018, the project received funding from Goldsmiths’ Alumni and Friends Fund and will be installed at 310 New Cross Road on Thursday 29th March.
